I’m not sure what my weekend was, but it was my weekend.

As you might have seen yesterday, that guy I Like and I have been married for a full year. Leading up to this, we sort of looked at each other strangely and were like, “Do we have to get presents? Go on a trip?” We had no idea, so we spent the weekend being us.

I could tell you it was a lovely weekend of being us because in many aspects it was. There was more fun with my new Zip food saver/vacuum sealer than is likely normal.  (Nothing weird, just vacuum sealing things to send to my brother.) There was date night at the laundromat which was so peaceful and quiet that I actually enjoyed it. There was a lovely lunch at the the Illium and brunch at B-Rad’s Bistro & Catering (which although delightful company and perfect hangover food, I wasn’t hungover so a little of the grease was lost on me.) I got more accomplished and projects closer to being done than I have in a long time.

It was a pretty decent time.

But we received a bit of tragic news that was both a kick to the gut and a stab to the heart. One of my closest friends father unexpectedly passed away. This was someone I’ve known my whole life and although others had complicated relationships with him, he’s one of my best friend’s fathers and my heart aches for her, her mom, and brother. I tried not to let it shadow the weekend too much, because he was also a man who lived life big, bold and with a lot of enjoyment and would prefer that others do so too.

So yeah. My feelings about my weekend are complicated so instead I’m going to share my sandwich from Saturday at the Illium.

My inner 5 year old was cheering.
