A little birdie told me she loves me

I haven’t been seeing my little bird friend lately and I figured it had migrated elsewhere for the season. The realization made me sad. It’s sort of silly in a way, a bird that didn’t come visit? Why should that make me sad?

MehMere loved birds and all summer, every day the bird would stop by and to me, in my heart it was MehMere stopping by to say hello and let me know she’s still with me. You can see where this is going and why I’d be sad to not see the bird…I’ll stop now for all of our tear ducts sake.

Don’t get me wrong there have been MANY other instances that MehMere has made her presence felt. Like the day at Target when I was saying something mean about someone (something she wouldn’t stand for) I turned a corner in an aisle and there was  a very angry looking owl staring back at me. Message received loud and clear. Or the day I was particularly missing her and someone left black licorice in the kitchen at the office.

Black licorice was one of her favorites.

She’s with me, this I know.

Yesterday, though, as I helped my sister through something, I heard a rustle at my window. MY BIRD FRIEND WAS BACK!

If you heard me say, “Hi MehMere!” yesterday, that’s why.

I know she’s in my heart. I know she’s part of my soul. I know that every time I bake or cook, crochet, sew or do anything we enjoyed together that she’s of me and whatever I’m creating.

I know that she’d highly approve of my sweater today or the fall jacket I just purchased. She’d love that I made a green scarf to go with my dark pink paisley print jacket and that I made it for me instead of someone else.

But sometimes it’s nice to have something to say hi to so it doesn’t look like I’m talking to myself.

ANYWAY. As my birdie friend looked at me, I heard the unmistakably clear voice of MehMere’s, “I love you Courtney, you beautiful thing, you.”

Love and Kisses, MehMere darling, you beautiful thing, you. Thank you for visiting me. I hope you like my upcoming projects.
